PC illiterate with important Q re. full version of Office

Max

We bought a new family computer in December, 2004, which came with a trial
version of MS Office 2003. We never upgraded to the full version because we
didn't want to spend the money.

Now that one of the kids has started college, my cousin gave us a new copy
of MS Office XP 2002 version. Cousin says we can install it two times off of
the one set of discs, once on the kids' laptop computer, and once on our
family desktop computer.

Do I have to totally uninstall the trial version that came on the computer?

I have 3 discs, labelled as follows: "Disc 1", "Step by Step Interactive
Training" and "Media Content". Can someone explain what each disc contains,
when I would use each one, and how to install the new Office?

Thanks in advance.

Uninstall the trial version of Office 2003 first.

Install the Office XP using the Disk 1 Office CD. Then read the EULA {open
any Office application and the go to Help, About for a link to the End User
Licence Agreement {EULA}}. The wording of the EULA is more limited than your
cousin told you.

The Step by Step Interactive Training is just what the name implies: a
training program for Office XP. Installation is optional. If you are a
beginner you may find it useful. The CD has its own installation program.

Media Content is a collection of media {clipart, sound, etc} for use by
Office XP. The CD has its own installation program. Installation is
optional. You may want to wait until you have used Office XP to see if you
need the media. You can view what is on the CD by using Windows Explorer.
If I recall correctly, the Media Content CD gives you a choice during
installation of how much of the media you want to copy to your hard drive.
Additional media is available for download at:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx or the Office
Download site for your region if you want a language other than English.
