PC to XServe to Mac problem

I create an Excel spreadsheet on a PC with XP Pro (using Excel 2002,
SP-1), and save it on an Apple XServe. When I try to open the file on
a networked Mac (using Excel 2001 Svc Release 1), double clicking the
file will launch Excel, but won't open the file. I can then open the
file by going to File:Open, but the spreadsheet then opens as Read
only.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

You probably do not have write permissions on the server. Excel needs to
create a temporary file in the directory which contains the file to be
opened.
