PCB file being ignored

I have a heavily-customized interface for PPT V2003. Furthermore, I'm
supposed to be the authority on interface customization, but I've run into a
situation that has me stumped.

Essentially, my customized interface is being maintained without the help or
presence of the ppt11.pcb file that is supposed to store all of those
instructions. My interface stubbonly remains present even after I:

- Copy a different .pcb file, with different settings, in place of the
current one.

- Delete ppt11.pcb altogether.

Changes that I make to the interface are maintained from one session to the
next, but I can't figure out how PPT is keeping track of them, because it
clearly is not writing them to ppt11.pcb. While I will if I have to, I would
rather not perform a reinstall. I would rather perform the equivalent of
grabbing the software by the shoulders and shaking it.

Any ideas...?

Okay, Detect and Repair, with the option to discard customized settings, has
resolved the issue. It wrote to a Registry key during the process, but it
went by my line of sight too quickly to have noted which key. While I have
solved the problem, I am still mystified as to how PowerPoint could maintain
a collection of custom settings without the use of its .pcb file...
