Can anybody tell me whether the latest version of the MS-
compatible software installed on top-end PDAs, e.g.
iPAQ/Compaq 5550 (sorry, can't remember the name of the
software, but they all seem to run it if they're not
Palms) is automatically compatible with SBS 2000? I need
to find out how much extra work/software/wiring I might
need, before I blow £400 on my new toy! As may be
deduced, I'm not IT literate (although I can punctuate).

There probably are few people who are connecting SBS (which i guess you
call Small Business Server). Servers are supposed to be servers and not
normally used for connecting with PDA's.

That being said, my "hunch" (guess?) is that all the software you need
for the PDA is provided by the PDA and it will work with Windows 2000
vintage software. Nothing is "automatic" and you will have to install
something, and probabably configure things.

Consider, however, not using a server, and instead connect to a regular
desktop machine running Windows 2000 or XP.

BTC,

If you mean the ActiveSynch software used to synch your Windows Mobile PDA
then the supported operating systems for this product are listed at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/downloads/pocketpc/activesync37.mspx

ActiveSync 3.7.1 supports Windows 98 (including Second Edition), Windows NT
Workstation 4.0 SP 6, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 2000
Professional Edition, and Windows XP.
