PDF excerpt into Word document

I'm writing about taxes and want to show part of an IRS form in my document,
probably adding a callout that says something like "enter your deduction
here." The IRS forms are online as PDF documents and the question is how
best to use this as an image in a Word document. I can use screen capture
and then crop the image to the size needed but I'm wondering if there's a
more elegant way to do this, taking advantage of the existing PDF format.
(I'll be getting Acrobat 6 shortly.) Or if not, what software would you
recommend for the screen capture.

When you get Acrobat, you'll find that there is an option to save a page in
a graphics format (such as JPEG), but I'd go with a screen capture anyway.
Either way, you're going to have to crop the result. You can get a
rough-and-ready screen shot by just displaying the desired portion and
pressing PrintScreen (or Alt+PrintScreen). This copies the whole screen (or
active window) to the Clipboard, ready to be pasted into any Windows
application. Instead of pasting it into Word, however, paste it into a
graphics app (even Windows Paint will do), crop it as needed, and save in a
graphics format, then use Insert | Picture | From File to put it in your
document.

If you want a dedicated screen capture app, SnagIt from TechSmith
(www.techsmith.com) is good. It allows you to select the exact area you want
to capture and automatically save in a chosen graphics format, without
having to go through a separate operation.
