PDFs from Word '07 are distorted in Mac Preview & Acrobat Reader

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

When I save documents as .pdf in MS Word '07, the headings and tables are
distorted in Mac Preview and in Acrobat Reader on a Mac (OS X). Headers are using Helvetica Neue fonts and Bank Gothic fonts - I've set the fonts
to be embedded - does anyone know of any other setting I should change to
remedy this? I don't see a lot of change options....

Thanks in advance!

The Mac does not support font embedding (at all) so I suggest that you
switch to fonts that you know you have on both the Mac and the PC.

You also need to ensure that you have a similar printer set as the default
on both the PC and the Mac (or: print the document). Both the PC and the
Mac use the printer driver to set the page dimensions and other measurements
for that display.

And don't expect cross-platform rendering to be "exact" -- it won't be...
You can expect each line to move a millimetre or so, depending on what else
is going on in that document.

If you know you will be working cross-platform, se the document up so that
small movements like that do not matter.

Hope this helps

Say What? That the first news to me. Adobe has been advertising
embedding on Mac's since the beginning of time (as far as Acrobat goes).

The way it works embedding of fonts only work adobe owned fonts and
fonts to which adobe has agreements font the Font foundry to allow it.

If Ms were to enter into an agreement with Adobe to allow font embedded
the embedding feature could be turned on.

But the chance of that happening is the same as a Cow taking a leap and
landing on the moon or mars, in one jump. Or to put it another way: the
chance is between Slim and None, and Slim just left town.

So, while font embedding will not work with MS fonts it can if you use
Fonts from Adobe or their agreement partners.

Hi Phillip:

Yes, I am aware that if you buy commercial, embeddable fonts from Adobe,
they will work, provided that you embed them in PDF :)

But I thought the user was asking about the "Font Embedding" function from
Word PC. On the PC you can embed "any" font in "any" kind of document.
Windows finds the fonts and installs them (or temporarily installs them for
use in that specific document, depending on the copyright restrictions in
the particular font).

Many of the Adobe fonts won't permit that, because their encoding
specifically prevents embedding :) But everything else will work, if you
can stand the document bloat!! :)

Cheers
