pdf's opening as a page in pub website

I am trying to develop an informational cd in webpage format (for easy
navigation to much information) using Publisher. I have numerous pdf
documents that I would like to hyperlink to. I cannot seem to do this
without having Adobe Reader & the pdf document open up in another window,
instead of opening as a page next to my main navigation bar, as I would
prefer. An example of what I mean (except it does not leave the nav bar) is

Thanks for any help!

I think that if one has the Adobe Reader and the plugin installed on their
computer, and click on a link such as yours, to a PDF file on your site, it
is going to automatically open under IE, and in the same window. The same is
true if you have Word installed, and are linking to a .doc file on your
site. Are you saying that if you burn the site and the PDF file to a CD,
that it then opens in a second, new window?

It sounds like what you want is to "frame" the PDF file beside your navbar,
and framing is not supported by Publisher. In the past I have used an
inserted iframe via a html code fragment, but that isn't supported by SP2.
One possible workaround would be to convert the form on the PDF to an image,
and insert that image beside your navbar. However, the user would not be
able to scale the output when they printed, I doubt that you would get the
same quality output when printed or viewed, and the page size and thus
loading time would be increased.

You can use the Select Image feature in the Adobe Reader to copy all the
content on your PDF page, and then paste that image directly into your
Publisher document. Or open and edit in a third party image editing
application. I have found GIF images work better than JPGs with text.

I also am wondering why you don't just reproduce all or part of the PDF page
on a Publisher web page, and offer a "printer friendly" link from that page
to the PDF file as an option to the user?

If I misunderstood your question, please post back.

Thanks much David. Let me work through the things you have said. The links
I tried before were done from the development (or design) pages where you hit
control and click. There is still so much to do I have not tried to put this
on a cd yet to see what happens. Think I assumed it would do the same and
open in another window. Will let you know what happens. Thanks again.
