Pen marks only visible after right click

If during a slide show I select the pen tool, I can see the pen shown on the
screen, and can move it around the screen, but it leaves no trace as it
moves. When I right-click, the trace now appears. How can I get Powerpoint
to show the trace as I move the pen tool?

To show pen right click > pointer options > pen (more choices in 2003)
OR ctrl + P

The correct operartion of the pen is to draw if left mouse button down & not
draw if button up.

Thanks John.

Since receiving your reply, I have checked out the pen function on my
desktop as well. The pen function is entirely normal on my desktop - i.e.
shows on screen as I draw. The problem is with the use on my notebook, which
is the device I will be using for presentations. With the notebook, the
drawing only appears on the next right click after drawing is complete. I
have had no other strange behaviour with respect to the mouse from my
notebook. Actually, I have tried with the same pointing device (a Wacom
graphics tablet) on both notebook and desktop.

I am an unashamed novice, so I would appreciate if you could tell me how to
turn off hardware acceleration!

OK

In windows

Control panel > display>settings

Choose advanced and then troubleshoot (be careful not to choose the first
troubleshoot you see)

You should see a slider for hardware accell. Start at the lowest - if the
problem is resolved turn it up notch by notch.

Eureka! - You got it!

Followed your instructions, and the best thing was that I could get it right
back to full acceleration again and it still worked - go figure!

Thanks for your rapid and valuable help.

If your on the border line so to speak it wont hurt to wind back a couple of
notches. Goes against the grain I know but you'll hardly notice (except for
lack of problems)
