You can do a few different things, but the most reliable is for you to save
your files in the "97-2003" format.
For example, open Word. Type some text on a page and click the Office
Button. Click the small arrow next to "save as" (or just hover over "save
as" with your mouse), which opens a flyout list on the right. Choose Word
97-2003 document. The Save As dialog box opens.
Notice that "Word 97-2003 Document" is listed in the "save as type" box.
Just so you know, if you were to just click Office Button | Save As in the
step above, it would open this same dialog box and you could just choose
"Word 97-2003 Document" in the "save as type" box yourself.
Name your document and click Save.
Now people using previous versions of Office applications or the free
Viewers will be able to open and view and edit your files.
