per diem rates

I am not sure how to accurately reflect per diem costs based on a seven-day
week while the hourly/daily rate is based on five day week.

When you say "per diem costs" I assume you mean a daily rate for meals,
hotel, etc., that has to be paid for the full time a resource is traveling
regardless of whether it's a workday or not. If a task is 10 days and
starts Monday, are you saying you would pay 12 days per diem because they're
onsite over the weekend even though they're not working Sat and Sun? What
about when the task is less than a full week. let's say starting Tues and
ending Fri - would that require 4 days or 6 days per diem or do you always
round up so it too would get a full 7 days per diem?

Hi,

Another approach is to create a custom calendar for a "per diem" resource.
Set the "per diem" resource's calendar to this custom calendar. If you need
to set a "per day" cost to this resource, you can set the "type" to either
Work or Material noting that a Material resource cannot have max units. For
a "work" type, set the standard rate to "$25/day" for example. For a
"material" type, you can enter "$25" in the standard rate field. When
assigning the "per diem" resource to a task, set the number of units to the
number of days you will designate as per diem days. You can also manually
enter the number of units in a task usage view and set the timescale to
"Weeks" and "Days" then enter "1" (for units) for each day needed.

Hope this isn't too confusing.

Best of luck!

The problem with using a work resource, Ian, is that the "work" being done
by the per diem gets counted in the total man-hours of the project and the
calendar of the expenses can affect the task's duration if you're not
extremely careful.

This is true... which is why I generally use this type of resource as a
"material" resource when tracking costs to this level. Sound advice!

Thanks,

Ian
