Hi All,
I experienced a very unexpected result the other day when relinking my Access 2003 Client file to the production Access 2003 database. The database and client reside on the same computer currently but the database resides in a local directory that is shared. The client file has always been linked using a UNC path to the database even though it is local to the computer. I have done this because the plan is that the client file will start getting moved to other computers and if I use a UNC path to the database file location, then I won't have to change anything when the client file is moved to another computer.
The other day when I was relinking, I used the local path to link to the Access database file instead of the UNC path on my computer. Well the performance improvement afterwards was nothing short of staggering! Forms that used to take 1-2 minutes to load now load in a blink of an eye!
I don't understand why this performance gain has been made. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening?
Many thanks for any help!
