Performance Opening forms

I have created an InfoPath 2003 form that will be used throughout our
company. The form is published to a SharePoint Site with three resource files
containing data. In the prototype testing we are finding that:
a). All users can open a new form to fill out without any problems.
b). However, about 20% of the users find that it takes between 5-20 minutes
to open a form that has already been submitted to the form library in
SharePoint. These users are in multiple domains; however, there are other
users in those domains do not see similar problems. Plus, there are no
special security requirements for this forms (i.e. it does not access data
from other domains)

Since this is a problem faced by a few individuals, it appears to me that
the problem is likely associated with how IE options and Office are
configured on their systems. I have walked through some of the typical
security options but have not found the cause of this problem.

Has any one seen some thing similar? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about opening a new form, or an existing form?

If new, the problem lies outside your template.

If existing, there have been numerous discussions on this topic. One quick
thought, however: do you allow attachments (file or image)? The users might
be attaching large files to their document which could slow it down.

Greg:

Thanks for your reply.

I am talking about opening an existing form. New form opens without a problem.

I have not been able to find any discussion that points to an issue that
only a few users face. If you are able to point me to some, I would
appreciate it.

BTW, none of the forms have nay attachments and the biggest file size of the
existing forms is 20KB.

One thought that struck me (after looking at one of the users) is that xml
DOM files does not exist to parse the xml date from an existing form. Is that
a likely reason for hwy it takes minutes to display existing forms? The user
has not downloaded the MSXML file so I have not been able to test this
hypothesis.

Thanks again.

A quick search of this group found: 51 results for performance
open.

I don't see the "minutes" to open a form, but it can run 15+ seconds
which is too slow. I'll be looking at any events that fire and data
connections set to retrieve on open, or in the open rules for the
form.

That was my first inclination as well. However the fact that a new form opens
just fine and the fact that only a few people see this problem appears to
indicate that it is not a form problem. Would you agree?

And yep ... it takes minutes! Unbelievable.

Thanks for taking the time to do the search. I did the same but did not see
anything related to this type of an issue.
