Performance

I installed 2008 yesterday - and I have to confess, so far my feelings have been mixed.

Anyhow - to the matter at hand.

I spend my day in excel and for the longest time I've been using Excel 2007 on Windows in my VMWare VM. And it performs exceptionally well.

So I was hoping that Excel 2008 running native on my Mac would be even faster - but it's not, the performance is terrible.

I work with very large sheets, with complex lookups and references.

Am I unique? are there tweaks I need to do to get it to perform well?

any help welcome!

Mac Excel just seems to be slower than windows versions. Express your

Yes, the performance of Excel 2008 on my Mac is terrible - Excel 2004 was much better! We're using dual processor 867 mhz G4s - above the minimum system requirements for Excel 2008.

My own experience - no, it's not slower than 2004 - on my core duo MacBook Pro anyway. I can't speak for G4 performance.

But yeah, its really nowhere near on a par with Excel 2007 - even running in a VM on a Mac - and that's a great pity.

I live in (great) hope that will change in time.

Its now a race between free NeoOffice (which is slow, but compatible and there's that free bit) and Office 2008 service packs

+1 2008 is simply dreadful on the performance front. I have switched back to 2004 on my PowerMac G5 2.7. With 2008 even the most basic tasks like cell movement and editing can take seconds.

Could this be an Intel vs. PPC issue or is Excel 2008 just a dud?
