permanently turning off formatting marks

Hi,

I have a document that I save with all the formatting marks turned off.
However, when it is re opened the marks are all displayed again.

I know that you can turn them off/on for the whole document by
checking/unchecking the all tick box under Tools > options > view >
formatting marks. However, even when the doc is saved the checkbox is re
checked when opened again.

Where is this being set?

Cheers
Chris

This is an environment setting, not per document. If formatting marks are
turned on in the window from which you open the document, they will be
displayed in the document. If you have them turned off when you quit Word,
then Word should start with them off (barring interference by an add-in). If
not, you may need to change the setting in Normal.dot; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/SaveViewAndZoom.htm (though actually,
since this is an options/toolbar setting, it is probably saved in the
Registry).
