Permission problems. Controling who can enter where

Hi

I have set up 2 user roles as i want to permission control 2 sections of my
form.
I have set up the drop down boxes and text fields with rules that if they
are not a memeber of the user role then they give them an error message.

The problem is that it is not working. I can change the value of the drop
down boxes. The data field does go red. I can eneter data in a text field
without any error.

I do get an error when i click on the submit button but it is a infopath
error not the one i have written.

Basically i want to be able to stop people not in the user rol from doing
anthing to certain objects in my form.

I am going about this the wrong way and what is the best way of doing this.
