permissions in project details web part

I have a workspace that my users can get in to, but at least one user is
thrown a login box in IE that looks to be a result of a different permission
setting from the project that is displayed in the Project Details Web Part.
The reason I think there is a difference in permissions across the web part
and the workspace is because the screenshot he sent me shows that he's in the
workspace, but the Project Details web part has not loaded yet.

MY question: Where do I look to confirm that he has permission to view the
project schedule? He's a member of the project and has tasks assigned to him,
so he sees his assignments in My Tasks. But for some reason it looks like he
does not have read access to the full schedule.

You can verify whether the user has access by having the user go to Project
Center (what projects does the user see?) and if they see the project in
question can they drill into it and see the details?)

Access to the project details view can be different than access to to see
assignments in My Tasks.

Check that the user belongs to a security group that has "View Project
Details in Project Center" category permission. This has to be enabled on a
category that gives access to the schedule by being on the project team at
the very least. The "My Tasks" category for example.

Also, the security group in question needs to have "View Project View"
global permission enabled.

Actually I think I am closer to the root cause. It has to do with a web part
using the datasheet view. Apparently some users are unable to view
datasheets. Below is the error they are getting, and after doing a search on
this string it looks to be either an ActiveX thing or a problem with the user
PC have a mix of Office 2003 compoents with Office 2007 components:

"The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the
following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint
Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or
support for ActiveX controls is disabled"

The best way to fix the issues with datasheet views is to upgrade the office
to 2007 completely.

That will be a tough pill for me to swallow as my organization has no plans
to upgrade to Office 2007 anytime soon. The kicker is that some of us are ok,
others are not. It probably all centers on what Microsoft Update components
people have installed on their own. For instance, I was fine right up until I
applied SP2 on Project2007 - then I got the error.

there's a lot of different suggestions on the web, but they are all over the
place. Furtherest I have been able to get is to delete a specific registry
key, which prevents my browser from even trying to view in datasheet. So now
I can get back in to my workspaces, but I get the messge "you cannot view in
datasheet view, please wait while the standard view renders."

It's definifely something with Office 2007 components vs. 2003 components. I
just can't imagine that there is no known fix other than to take the full
plunge to 2007 (nothing against you, just frustrated. I LOVE the datasheet
view, it's like "Excel Server.")
