Permissions lost for a list item

Hello,

We are facing a weird problem with Project Server 2007.

We created a custom list under PWA, for example, from the standard Custom
List template. Then we created a new list item in this list via the New menu
item. Using the Manage Permissions menu item (in the list item's popup menu)
we removed existing inherited permissions and added an existing user with
Full Control access.
So we got the list item with Full Control access permission for this user.
Then we go to the Recourse Center and opened details for this user via
the Edit Details menu item. There we did not change anything and just saved
existing details. When we returned to the permissions list for our list item
we found out that the permissions for this user disappeared.
The latest (2nd) service pack for Project Server did not fix the problem.

I will appreciate any help on this issue.

Unfortunately I think you are out of luck as far as a fix - hopefully
permissions will work better in the version of Project. At any rate, as a
workaround what we do is disable workspace synchronization within PWA when
updating permissions, etc. Then once the permissions have been updated on the
user, group, etc. we re-enable synchronization. Within Project Server when
permissions are modified the process basically strips the user (or all users
in a group if group permissions are updated) from all items that they have
access to, updates their permission level, then attempts to replace the user
on all items with the elevated permissions. This doesnt always work and you
can really have a problem if for some reason the queue job fails especially
when updating group permissions. Many users can lose access across many sites
simply by adding or removing a permission setting from a group. Hope this
helps.
