permissions problem

Hi

I have a problem with some users on an NT4 SFM SP6a volume. The user (mac
os9.2) can open a word file and edit it but when trying to save it gets the
following error message 'word cannot save or creat this file. the disk may
be full or write protected.

I have rebuilt the volume, stopped and restarted the sfm service. Restarted
the server, to no avail.

The file and enclosing folder has change permissions, and i have also set
these to full. Again no luck.

This is only affecting ms word files anything else ie.. powerpoint, excel is
fine?

If I put the user into the administrators group then they can save no
problems, but obviously I cant leave them in admin group.

Any ideas please!

Thanks

Hi Sean:

This is a pain: Word is attempting to do a "Rename, Write, Delete, Remove".
They tightened up the protocol with one of the security fixes and now it
falls over.

Check that the user has full permissions to the Temp directory on both the
local machine and the server. And make sure that Word has Fast Saves turned
OFF and "Always make backup" turned ON in Word>Preferences>Save.

But I think you might find the cause is that the user can't get sufficient
permissions to the Temp directory.

Cheers
