Hi,
A friend in the middle eastern languages department at my university has
been asking me lately whether Office 2004 for Mac will support Unicode
input for Persian and Arabic text. Is that going to happen? Thanks a lot.

Don't think so... if I remember correctly, there's been lots of information
released that Office 2004 will be full Unicode, but nothing said about
support for right to left text. Tell your friend to check into Mellel
(redlers.com) which many people say good things about. For further info,
try googling the web for articles on Office 2004. Somewhere the MacBU
released a pretty extensive statement re Unicode, but I don't remember the
link, sorry. I think googling this group should turn it up, I'm almost
positive Corentin Cras-Meneur posted it and he may come back with it if you
continue to check back here.

It might have been me. After discussing the issue with a lot of people
and with a few additional information Paul gathered I can tell you that
it looks like it's an issue in the Apple ATSUI that prevents many apps
(not only Word) from properly using right to left support. Maybe in an
update for Word 2004 once Apple has the problem solved ???

Oh there's no doubt about it, but I've cited you many times in the past
so the "it might have been me" was intended for "I might have given the
information citing Paul in the past" :)))
