Persian Fonts in Office 2004

Hi All:

I am in Kabul working with political parties to get ready for the
election. I am running a Titanium 667 with 10.3.4. I can set the
International control panel for Dari and Pashto fonts (i.e. Persian),
but Office X does not support Unicode. A friend pointed out the
following which he found posted somewhere recently:

"As a result, we are unable to input and view Arabic in Word X. As a
Workaround, you may input it in TextEdit. I apologize for the
inconvenience this issue has caused. Our product team has been
investigating this issue and the support for Unicode should be
available in the next version of Mac Office."

Does anyone know if Office 2004 supports Unicode and if it will work
with Persian fonts?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I was also hoping to do work in Filemaker using a Dari/Pashto font.
Any insight on that would also be welcome.

Office 2004 does support unicode, but not right-to-left languages (due to
problems with Apple's text rendering APIs)

Hi,
Why dont you try MS Windows, which has full support for Unicode and we can
supply you with the Pashto software and Fonts and also technical support.
Have a look at our site:

Mellel also seems to be a good word processor for right-to-left
languages. As far as FileMaker, it's been reported that it works ok
with ordinary Arabic script, but that the pseudo-space and
pseudo-connector can cause trouble.
