Having problems with corrupt personal folder. MS Knowledge Base suggest you
can create new but does not cover XP. especially if you cannot open Outlook
2000
Suggestions?

Basic troubleshooting includes running Scanpst.exe
alternating with Scandisk.exe or another hard drive
repair tool. See

run scanpst.exe ( no problem report) - no scandisk on XP but have run
defrag. Outlook will open if I log on as another user. How can I create a
new personal folder.

File | New | Outlook Data File or File | Data FIle Management | Add or Tools | E-mail Accounts | New Outlook Data File. The latter method lets you change the default file.

Strongly recommend alternating Scandisk and Scanpst 3-4 times. Defrag isn't the right tool for this.

Thanks for you full reply. Ran Error checker, scanpost. Can open Outlook
2000 if I log on as another user though. Following you suggestions below I
tried creating a new outlook.pst that didn't work. I would welcome any
suggestion, as I am absolutely stuck.

Check Help About and tell us whether Outlook is configured in Internet Mail Only or COrporate/Workgroup mode.

Same thing suggesting, of course, that it is not the outlook.pst file that
is the problem. Something dark in the registry file?
What happened when you tried using a new .pst file?

Check Help About and tell us whether Outlook is configured in Internet Mail
Only or COrporate/Workgroup mode.

I tried another profile. That didn't work. I can Outlook 2000 when I log on
as another user. I can import my outlook.pst to this other users .pst. What
could be the problem?

Outlook does not beyond the opening logo, not even the dialogue box
reporting missing personal folder. I am not sure if I understand the concept
of profile correctly. I have set up new internet connections and created a
new outlook.pst file. I can open the pst file and use Outlook if I log on to
XP as a new user.

Cannot open Outlook in the problem account. In another account it reports as
Internet only -security update.

One thing you rmight want to try is to rename the PST file that Outlook is currently pointing to. If you don't know which that is, rename all the PST files on your system. When Outlook starts, it should ask you for a PST file location. You can give a new file name and have Outlook create a new PST file.
