persomnal file size limits?

OK, this is odd. I thought that Outlook 2003 had a size limit of
20gig. I've migrated multiple people from eudora to Outlook with no
size problems at all, but this one user's Outlook 2003 insists on a
two gig maximum, which is forcing me to create multiple archival PSTs
in order to find a home for all his mail.

On top of this (don't know if this is related or not) is even though
I've moved a large amount of mail from the user's primary pst, when I
go into explorer to look at the size of the file, it still shows the
same size (but current date stamp.)

I've ensured the deleted items have been emptied. Could Outlook be
holding on to additional information, causing it to post a false-full?

I've uninstalled and re-installed Outlook, but that hasn't helped
either.

Ditto installing all current patches & updates.

Any other ideas?

thanks in advance.

If you delete items from a data file, the size of the file will not
change unless you compact the file.

In Personal Folders, properties>Advanced what does it say for Format?

There is also a registry setting to specify a max file size, there is an MS
kb article on the subject

Check the type of the PST. It may be the older ANSI format.

In Personal Folders, properties>Advanced what does it say for Format?

Just "Personal Folder File"
There is also a registry setting to specify a max file size, there is an MS
kb article on the subject

I googled an article talking about the reg settings but didn't find in
my registry what it states in the article, specifically:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\PST

I even searched the registry for the following Value/Data entries and
came up enpty handed

MaxLargeFileSize
0x00000001 (1 MB) to 0x00005000 (20 GB)
0x00005000 (20 GB)
Maximum size of a Unicode .PST file.

WarnLargeFileSize
0x00000001 (1 MB) to 0x00005000 (20 GB)
0x00004C00 (19 GB)
The threshold at which a warning is displayed when Unicode .PST files
become too large.

MaxFileSize
0x001F4400 to 0x7C004400

(1.95 MB to 1.937 GB)
0x7BB04400

(1.933 GB)
Maximum size for an ANSI based .PST file (the maximum size is set to
just under the 2 GB threshold).

WarnFileSize
0x001F4400 to 0x7C004400

(1.95 MB to 1.937 GB)
0x74404400

(1.816 GB)
The threshold at which a warning is displayed when Unicode files grow
too large

I seem to recollect seeing a post with this exact problem some time ago, I
dont know what the resolution was
