Personal folder backup

K

khospice

When I swap a computer to a new user and try to install Outlook Personal
Folder backup tool I get the following message.

"Setup has detect that you already have a version of Personal Folders Backup
installed."

When I reply "Yes" to uninstall I get a message "This action is only valid
for products that are currently installed." Don't you just love these
messages.

The program proceeds to tell me in uninstall it using Add and Remove
Programs. But it's not listed there either.

I am using XP Pro SP2 and ithe Microsoft backup tool has been installed for
the previous user and would like to install for the current new user.

Any thoughts?

You need to download the pfbackup.exe and extract the files using a product
such as WinZip - then run the .msi file. You can then remove the file and
reinstall.

Hi,

Follow Milly's suggestion to use the MSI file to remove/reinstall the
Personal folder backup tool. If it doesn't work, go to the following steps.

Step 1: Login the previous user and uninstall the Personal folder backup
tool. And then login the new user to install it again.

Step 2: use Windows installer cleanup utility
------------------
When you cannot uninstall something on the computer, we can use this
utility to uninstall the program which was installed via Windows Installer.

1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D
5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

2. After you install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click Start
menu-> All Programs-> Windows Install Clean Up.
3. Find the entry related to the Personal folder backup tool, and then
click Remove. Quit the Utility.
4. Reinstall the Personal folder backup tool.

What is the result?

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't
hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Emily Lin

I did what Milly said to do and it did not work. I had to make the user an
administrator to make it work. Backup seems to work fine now.

Thank you, by the way I could not get the link "Windows Installer Cleanup

Hi,

Thanks for the confirmation that you have downloaded the msicuu2.exe from
the utility description link. Maybe the original link was wrapped when
posting here.

The whole download URL should be:
D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe>

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to
contact me. It is always my pleasure to be of assistance.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Emily Lin
