personal folder configuration for mobile users with LAN and remoteaccess

How can I configure for outlook for laptop with Windows xp & Office XP pro to use one profile for both in the office LAN environment and outside office on the road. Windows XP create 2 different profile under "windows\documents and setting" one is called "username" for local machine (without network) 2nd is "username.domainname".

I can create the shared folder to use by same users for both LAN connection & remote connection but there must be a correct way to configure for laptop users.
