'Personal folders not closed properly' error in Outlook 2003

This is a persistent error message which has been occurring for about six
weeks. On opening Outllook I get the message "The data file "Personal
Folders" was not closed properly and must be checked for errors.' There is a
worm indicating the check and then the program opens as usual with my inbox.
Today it crashed before it could carry out the initial send/receive.
I always exit the program using file/exit. Since the problem started I have
clicked the minus next to 'Personal folders' to collapse all the folders,
before exiting using file/exit as always.
I have run Office Diagnostics several times and it always finds 1 or 2
errors, then the problem with Outlook does not recur for one or two
reopenings. However it invariably then returns.
Any suggestions for avoiding thiserror message gratefully received.

Sounds like you have something keeping Outlook open. See if anything here
