Personal Folders Question

Perhaps a stupid question, but is the Personal Folders pst file optional when
Outlook is implemented? My Company just rolled out OL2007 with EX2007 and I
don't have the noted Personal Folders.

Our mail team has complained that people are storing too much mail on the
server and I am trying to find an option for storing the email locally.

you can make new pst files by going File/New/outlook data file
if you have some from a previous version of outlook, you can go File / Open
/ outlook data file, find it and open it and it will show up

I don't have this option within OL2007. I have an option under File that is
called Data File Management. Under that dialog box, there is an option to
Add, but it prompts for "Types of Storage", which isn't populated with
anything.

Let me know if I am in the wrong area.

Yes, it's optional with an Exchange account. In fact, keeping data in the
Exchange mailbox is probably best from a control perspective.

It can be done if done carefully. For example, do not make the delivery
location a PST or everything will be suchked down from the Exchange mailbox
and others won't be able to, for example, know your availability when they
create appointments.

If PSTs are to be allowed, I think it's best to have people move to their
PSTs that stuff they don't want cluttering up the mailbox. Alternatively,
they can create a rule that moves only messages to a PST, leaving all other
types of data in the mailbox.

Sounds like PST creation may be disabled by GPO.
