personal macro workbook

When I use Excel 2001 (OS8.6) my macros are available even though the
Personal Macro Workbook is not open (at least I can't see it).

Under Excel OSX the workbook actually has to be open.

Is this correct?

What do you mean when saying it has to be open? The Personal Macros Workbook
is supposed to be in Applications/Microsoft Office X/Office/Startup/Excel
folder (placing an alias works fine and is much safer) so it opens up
automatically on launching of Excel, and no sheets are visible, except if
you have a look in the VB Editor... And it's strictly identical with Excel
2001 (well the name of the Office folder is different, of course)

So, at what point is this different from what you experience with your
Personal Macros Workbook?

When Excel 2001 is running, the PMW is not open - at least it isn't visible
in the Windows menu. The macros are available. The PMW (not an alias) is
in the Applications/Microsoft Office X/Office/Startup/Excel folder. Under
the Window menu there is an option to Unhide... when I select it the PMW
is available and can be unhidden.

Under X the file must actually be open when running Excel or the macros are
not available. I don't have access to the computer running X right now but
maybe this option under the Windows menu is available as well can hide the
workbook in X. I'll check when I get it back

Thanks

Well, you should find the same option with the OS X version. But it's still
puzzling me when you say it "has to be open"... Do you mean it doesn't
launch automatically? If so, check the Startup/Excel folder, the PMWorkbook
(or an alias) should be there.

If you just mean it's visible (but automatically launched) then it's
probably been set so by mistake, and you'll hide it again to find everything
as it should be :)

I'm sure I just didn't adequately examine the Window option in X. It does
launch automatically in both but it was not visible in 2001 and I didn't
realize how I could duplicate this in X.

Thanks again.
