personal music for web page background

D

David Bartosik

The background tag supports wav and midi media formats. In v.2003 use the web
page options under the Tools menu to add the media file.

M

motolama

I tried exactly what you said, but it still keeps giving back the same
answer; publisher can't open te specified sound file. I'm using a .wav file,
and I have already uploaded the file. It only accepts file on my computer...

You don't upload the file manually. You insert it into the Publisher web
publication prior to publishing. Go to Tools > Web page options > Background
sound and insert/link it there. Publisher will make a copy of the file and
include it with the other web files for uploading. The sound should work in
a web page preview if done correctly.

I tried both ways. First I linked the on tools>web page options. Then I
uploaded the file. On the preview it worked fine, but when I upload, the
sound doesn't play.
I tried to link to a file uploaded previosly, it gave me the answer I said
below. The URL is www.carvalhos.mg.gov.br.
The problem is occuring on the page "www.carvalhos.mg.gov.br/trilhas".
I'm sure i'm clicking some wrong button, but I can't find where the mistake
is.
In advance, tanks for your atention.

I assume you are talking about this page:
http://www.carvalhos.mg.gov.br/index_arquivos/Page612.htm

The source code indicates that perhaps you inserted the wrong file:

<bgsound src="file0001.ht_" loop=infinite>

Remove the file from your Pub publication, and reinstall it....and
republish. You might need to delete the old file, or at least Page612.htm
from the sever.

If you .wav file is too large, it will take a long time to load and might
explain why it did not work on your website after you uploaded it.

And finally, perhaps take this as a sign that you should not use a
background sound on your site. It alienates more people than it attracts as
a general rule.

Think I'd follow your advise and forget the background song.
One more question, when a user downloads the file on that same page, it
doesn't ask if he wants to save the file.... Why is that?
Anyway, thank you very much for your time....

I am not sure which file you are talking about but in general if the file is
a .pdf or some other file type where there is a plug in installed in the
browser, like the adobe viewer, the pdf file will automatically load in the
browser instead of giving you the option of save the file to disk. You can
instruct people to right click, save as...or ZIP the file for download, and
that will keep it from loading. Hope that helps...
