I recorded a macro to my "personal.xls" workbook. Excel
saved the file in the following directory:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART"
When I closed and then launch Excel, the personal.xls
file did not open. I know it is supposed to be a hidden
workbook so when I looked in the VBA editor I did not see
the personal.xls file. I tested the startup folder by
moving another Excel file into it, once I launched Excel
that file opened successfully but not the personal.xls
file
If I move the personal.xls file to the
path: "C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\AltStart" and enter that path in
the Tools/Option/General dialog box in the "At start up,
open all files in." section, the personal.xls file opened
successfully when I launch Excel.
I am familiar with the use of the personal.xls file
because I use it at work and home. I have a handful of
VBA utilities I have created and use them all the time.
I modified my personal.xls file from work and brought it
home to update my home pc. I noticed that the xlstart
folders (the other in C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\XLStart) where empty. I first deleted my
original file which was not in an xlstart folder and then
copied my updated file into the first xlstart path
mentioned above. At this point when I launched Excel my
personal.xls file did not load and then I started
creating a new personal.xls file to figure out what
happened. I'm clueless to why Excel does not open my
personal.xls file in xlstart folder, but I have a work-a-
round by having my personal.xls file the AltStart folder.
Any idea why the personal.xls will not open in the
xlstart folder?
Note: I and running Windows XP and Office Pro XP on my
home PC.
Sorry for the wordy problem.
Thanks
