Personal.xls ?Save? on exit but no changes

Hi,

I use my Personal.xls to save handy formulas, tips etc. Sometimes if I've
used a piece of code shared on the internet, I'll save the blurb to an Excel
sheet in Personal.

Recently I get a dialogue box asking if I want to save Personal every time I
exit Excel even when I know I haven't made changes. I've checked this by
opening a new wkbk and closing immediately.

I did rename Personal a little while ago and saved in another directory
because I wondered if it was slowing the loading of Excel on my machine. It
wasn't so I deleted the Personal in XLSTART and copied the original Personal
back in and renamed it.

If anyone can help I would be grateful

Comment any open event code that modifies the file in some way.

Look for and disable any cell formulas (or named formulas) that include
=Today() or =Now()

Hi Peter,

I've tried your kind suggestions but nothing doing.

I'm going to start again with a new Personal and add sheets and modules one
by one to see if I can find the problem.

completely obvious that I wasn't aware of.

Hi Peter,

It seems to have been =CELL("Filename",A1)

It's the only formula in the Personal wkbk that is an actual formula. All
the example formula are entered as text.

Thanks for the feedback Diddy.

You made me have another look and it seems any Volatile function will flag
the file as unsaved on opening. As documented the Cell formula is not
volatile, but it is. More volatile functions listed here -
