personal.xls

On my computer whenever I open Excel, a file called
Personal.xls is automatically loaded but is hidden. This
file appears to retain the macros I run. However, on one
of my colleague’s computer, she does not have a
personal.xls file. I sent her mine, saved it to her PC and
hid it as mine was hidden. But whenever she opens Excel,
the file is not there and has to me opened manually.

Is there a setting that needs to be set to get this to
open whenever Excel opens?

Thanks!

Fred

Hi

Copy this file in your Xlstart folder.
Do a search in Windows for the location

*******************************************************
If you want to use the macro in all your workbooks you can copy the macro in
your personal.xls.
This is a (normal) hidden workbook that is loaded automatically by Excel.
When you record a macro, you have the option of recording it to your
Personal Macro Workbook.
The file, Personal.xls, is stored in your \XLStart directory.

The easiest is to record a dummy macro and choose Personal Macro Workbook.
Excel create the file for you this way.
Then copy your macro in this file and delete the dummy macro.

Fred,

The file needs to be stored in Excel's XLStart folder, located
typically at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart".

One way to find that XLStart folder.

Open excel
hit alt-f11 (to get to the VBE)
hit ctrl-g (to see the immediate window)
copy this and paste it in:

?application.StartupPath

I get this using win98 and xl2002:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
