personalized mass email to those in a category

I'd like to send a personalized mass email using mail merge (that is,
individual emails with the same content, starting with "Dear (Name),")
to all contacts in a specific category.

There was some good online documentation about how to do this with
Office 2004, but it seems to have been taken down, and I'm trying to
figure out how to do this in Office 2008.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

You might ask on the Word newsgroup or check under Word Help in the Menu
bar. The directions would be the same AFAIK.

You also might look at some of the third party applications that do this
type of mass sending much better.

Third party applications to use with Entourage

To access the Office for Mac applications newsgroups:

If you use a newsreader rather than the Mactopia interface to this newsgroup
you can download old messages and search for answers. If you are not
familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader already has the
Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to the newsgroups
you want. See this article for help subscribing using the Entourage
newsreader:

Ah, I found instructions in Word help. You can merge to email messages
using the mail merge manager, but Entourage must be selected as your
default email application for the option to activate. Thanks.

Thanks for reporting back, that's good information to know.
