PERT Analysis Tool Bar

A

Adrian Bates

I have just upgraded to a new laptop.

MS Project 2003 SP2 is installed on the laptop.

I can show the PERT Analysis tool bar but none of the buttons do anything.

This feature worked fine on my old laptop.

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

Many thanks

Sometimes the .dll reference becomes bad. Try this:
Tools/COM Add-Ins...
Click Add...
Browse to find the dll for the missing add-in.
The file you need is PERTANL.DLL
The default folder for Office 2003 is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\

Depending on your install, you may need OFFICE12 or OFFICE10

*********
If the COM-ADD INS is not available on your Tools menu,
Tools/Customize/Toolbars...
pull the Commands tab, select Tools on the left side, scroll to the COM
Add-Ins on the right side and then drag it onto the menu of your choice.
Most people put it on the Tools menu.

I too have had a problem with the pert analyis function. I have tried
removing the add-in and when I try to re-add the pertanl.dll file, pert
analysis does not reappear in my list of available add-ins. I am running
Project 2007 with SP1. Any advice gratefully received.

Hello TA,

If I understand your post, you looked at the COM Add-in dialog box and
Pert Analysis was there. You clicked the remove button to remove the
add-in -- the Pert Analysis disappeared.

Then you clicked the Add button, found the dll and the option did not
reappear? I've just stepped through the process several times on my
setup and although there is a delay of a few seconds, the option does
appear.

Try again. If all else fails, you may be time for a repair through
the Control Panel or possibly a reinstall.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie

The problem is exactly as you have described it. Even after waiting for
several minutes the option does not reappear. I have tried repair and
reistall twice and the problem is still there. I have also tried disabling
firewall and antivirus.

Many Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for the update. When you reinstalled, did you choose a custom
install and confirm that all options were being run from your
computer? I don't recall if you need to specifically select that
option or not.

Hi

The problem remains with both standard install and all options being run
from my computer. I also tried removing the compare project add-in and this
cannot be restored either. Have also checked the macro level security to
ensure Trust all installed add-ins and templates is switched on.

Best Regards

Hello TA,

I've never personally had the problem you describe but it may be
possible the PERTANL.DLL is not registering correctly and you may need
to manually register the file. I suggest creating a restore point and
backing up important files first, then see information on using the
RegSvr32 tool to manually register the dll. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=249873

I hope this helps.
