Pesky Toolbars in Word2004

It's the strangest thing. I've got these toolbars that stretch only about
2/3 of the way across the screen, then a portion of the bar is "hidden" and
you have to click on the arrow at the end, to view the remaining two items
on the tool bar. There is plenty of room on the screen to see those items;
isn't there some way to keep the tool bar expanded so that all of the
items can be seen?

If you're talking about Reset Toolbar and Customize Toolbars, they are
*always* contextual menu items at the end of the toolbar - they are not
really items "on" the toolbar at all. m.

NO, these two links show what I'm talking about:

This first one shows the Standard tool bar. Note at the end of it, there
is a little arrow, indicating that there are more icons that are hidden.
Again, this toolbar only stretches across about 2/3 of my screen so there
is plenty "more" space.

This next link shows what is hidden behind the "end" of the toolbar, when
you click on the arrow:

This are not context-sensitive; they are standard toobar icons.

Hi Ethios-

I think I know what you are saying, and it may help if you think of
those "extra" buttons as not actually being a part of the toolbar,
itself. Instead the arrow & the palette of additional buttons it
displays are exactly that... a toolbar button whose purpose is to
display more buttons.

If you want any of them to be a regular part of any toolbar, select the
Customize Toolbars/Menus command & click the Commands button. Locate
the command you want & just drag it to where you want it on a toolbar.
The bar will expand as necessary to permanently display the buttons you
add. Likewise, you can remove any buttons you don't want as well as
create your own custom toolbars rather tha changing the built-in bars.

Thanks. I just created one customized toolbar out of the three that were up
there, and I'm happy. But what is the Format Pallette? When does that
"appear" and how so I adjust its transparency?

Thanks again. all.

Check out the "About menus, toolbars, and the Formatting Palette", "Show
or hide the Formatting Palette", and "Customize the Formatting Palette"
topics in Word Help.
