Phantom double spacing

re: Word 2004

I pasted in some text from a web page, and it came out double-spaced.

If I double-click to highlight a word, the highlighting extends to the
space below--i.e., a highlighting that's 2x as tall as it should be.

I can't delete the extra spacing. If I go to the beginning of a line and
hit delete, the line joins the one above, but if I hit Return, it's
double spaced again.

Format>Paragraph>Spacing is set to zero, both before and after. Line
spacing is single.

If I check Format>Style, hit Modify, and select Paragraph, it's the same
(zero, zero, single) for the Normal style.

If I cut all the text and Paste Special>Unformatted Text, it's still
double spaced (all that happens is that I lose Bold, etc).

The entire document is double spaced; how do I get rid of it?.

Scott,

Do you get the same results if you copy the text from the web page, open a
blank new Word doc and choose Edit menu > Paste Special > Unformatted Text?
(as distinct from the procedure you describe in which you have presumably
already pasted the text into the Word doc, since you say: "If I cut all the
text and Paste Special>Unformatted Text, ...").

Hi Scott,

If Clive's suggestion doesn't work, try this:

Copy from the Web and paste into a Word document. Then copy everything
EXCEPT the last paragraph mark and Paste Special> Unformatted Text into a
blank new Word document.

If that doesn't do it (it should), post back. I've got one other idea.
