Phantom Section Break

Hard Rain

I have a lengthy Word document that mysteriously goes from Section 1 to
Section 3 with no visible section breaks. No section breaks are evident
while viewing the draft mode with show paragraph marks/hidden symbols
enabled. How can I find/delete these mystery section breaks? Thanks for
your help.

Two possibilities:

1. Use Find to search for ^b

2. Set the Browse Object to Section and click the browse arrows till you
find the invisible break. If you want to delete it, the way that usually
works is to make a selection including a character or two on either side of
it and delete the selected text, then retype the deleted characters.

In the Replace dialog, enter the code ^b in the Find What box and nothing in the
Replace With box. Click the Find Next button until the mystery break is selected
(probably you'll know because nothing appears to be selected) and then click the
Replace button.

When you do this, watch out for side effects such as changes in margins,
headers/footers, and page numbering. See
