Phantom text in Excel 2002

PhilipC

In the last couple of days Excel has suddenly started
typing itself. There have no been three instances where
recognisable words have been typed into Excel without any
user intervention. Examples of the text are "The be the
Bay. The" and "Please". I have got an updated version of
Mcafee and have also run AVG anti virus will no virus's
being found when a full sytem scan is done.

Have we got a ghost or are the anti virus products
missing a resident virus.

Please help before I call in for an exorcism.

If Stephens suggestion doesn't help and exorcism too doesn't solve the item
: Is this occuring in any Excel file or in a specific one.
Is it possible that somehow a macro (auto-open or any event macro) is
connected to that file.

If on any file : Is there any strange add-in (maybe a practical joke from
someone) loaded when Excel starts up ??

Try disabling all macro's (also the trusted ones if you use Excel XP).

The mesaages appeared in a new workbook. No one here has
the knowledge of Excel to install a joke macro.
Sorry I am being so negative to the comments. All help is
greatly appreciated.
I will try to diable all macros and see if it doesn't
occur again.

I'd checked voice recognition once again.

Click on Tools|Speech.
Do you see two options including one for speech recognition.

If you see two options ("Show Text to speech toolbar" is ok), then maybe you do
have it enabled.

In win98, I can remove it from my pc (if you don't have a microphone, why keep
it installed?):

Windows start button|settings|control panel|Text Services Applet.
