Phone dialer causes reboot

I have win XP Pro, AMD 1.2 cpu, 40 GB hd, 512 RAM Cable
modem, NO Phone line hooked up.

When entering or editing contacts phone numbers a box
will demand my phone settings.
Area code, any special number to dial and so forth.
Cannot cancle request. If I enter area code the the
computer will reboot.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and all updates
applied. Any idea's?

Do you have a FAX modem card installed in the machine? If so why not just set your FAX modem so that it has all the correct information? I seem to recall when installing an operating system such as Windows 2000 we are queried for an area code somewhere along the process. Why the computer would shut down sounds like a hardware issue. Ever looked in the Event Viewer to see what you can see?
