phone number formatting in Outlook

It used to always be that when i entered a phone number as 10 digits, the
nubmer formatted automatically as a phone number, such as (xxx)yyy-zzzz.
But, now this is no longer happening. I do not know why it stopped happening
.. Is there any way to turn this behavior back on? Note, help queries do not
turn up any information on this.
