Phone numbers

I had a hardware crash last week. I'm up and running
again. But when I type in phone numbers for a new
contact, it does not automatically format the number for
me. I type in for example, 1234567890, hit tab and it
remains in that format. Before the crash, it would
automatically format it for me (123) 456-7890.
Suggestions?
