I'm sure the answer is pretty simple. Can someone tell me how to
condense the file size when sending photo attachments with Entourage.
The iphoto program allows you to do this but I haven't figured out how
to access photos in the documents folder; iphoto will only allow me to
get photos from my library and then condense them. Is Entourage
reliable as a default email program or do I need something else to help
me move photos as attachments with email without them being
mammoth-size files?

Hi,

well, the answer is pretty simple, and the answer is that Entourage is not a
photo editor. Simply use a proper photo editor like Graphic Converter or
Photoshop Elements to resize the pictures, then attach the resized pictures
to a new Entourage email message. I don't see how Entourage's inability to
resize photos would prevent it from being "reliable as a default email
program".

True, in Mac OS X Tiger, Apple's Mail 2 program includes the option to
resize attached images, which is a convenient feature, but it's not really
part of the traditional email client functionality. So, long story short,
make sure your pictures are already resized before you attach them to a new
email message.

If you use iPhoto, it will reduce the size before the picture is
attached to Entourage. If you don't use iPhoto but have an hp printer
they provide a freebie called hp photo mailer.app that works good.

Open iPhoto;
Import those photos into your iPhoto Library.
Click Library (Source - left side of window);
Select photos you wish to mail (for continguous pictures, click on first
pic, hold down shift key while you select the last of the contiguous
pics to select those contiguous pictures between the first and the last
you selected; for NON-contiguous photo selection, click first photo you
want to choose, then hold down apple/command key while you continue to
click on the various pics you want to select), then find the
Entourage/email icon in the row below the last row of pictures and click
on it. A Mail Photo window will appear and you can select the size
(small, medium, large, or full size) of the file you wish to send. Then
click the Compose button and the Entourage message window will appear
with those photos re-sized, attached and ready to be mailed to whomever
you address the message. Hit Send. Viola!

If you don't want or can't get those "Document folder" pics into your
iPhoto Library, use some photo editing software to reduce the file size
for reasonable mailing. Photoshop Elements, Graphic Converter, Color
It!, probably others. When you've Saved As a smaller size for mailing,
identify and drag them into your Entourage message window and send them
on their merry way.

Let me get this straight: you're a mac genius who can also bake and
make jam? Where have you been all my life? Well, it wouldn't have
mattered since I just plugged into my new imacG4 just a couple of weeks
ago.

Thanks for your input. I think I'm going to punt on Entourage and just
hang with Mail. But here's my paramount issue of the moment. Since
iPhoto does a nice job of sending out the photos from the library, is
there an easy way to navigate from iPhoto to documents or do i have to
figure out a way to get photos I have edited back into the library as a
folder? It's essential for me to leave originals in the library and
work on duplicates of them.

Things seemed to be a bit easier in my old Windows world, but a heck of
a lot slower. Thanks again for any help you offer to this lost soul.

Yup, mine, too. An iBook that replaced my iMac running 9.1. I don't
have a good grasp yet of where things are in my current system. I'll
learn.

It soitanly does.

Yup. What picture editing app do you use? Elements? There's an Adobe
group for Elements users - check the Adobe website. Maybe they can
help. For the heck of it, I just did this: selected a photo from
library --> Share --> Export to desktop; edit desktop copy, save, then
simply drag it (the edited photo) back to the iPhoto library window.
Does that exercise do you any good?

Since this group is for Entourage, maybe you should look for an iPhoto
group - am pretty sure the apple.com site offers something but it might
take some looking to find it. For that matter, where'd you get your
'puter? What kind of support do they offer? Mine has 90 days free help
getting up and comfy. Take advantage of it.

Such as it is.
