Photo download and numbering

We have various different cameras in our office, none seem to show the photo
number on the camera screen. On download and opening in MS photo editor, a
random numbering system seems to operate.

We want to be able to identify photos by the same number shown on the camera
to then used to name it on downloading. Is this possible? None of the
cameras or their websites seem helpful. This is to assist in identifying
photos when numerous similar ones have been taken.

Thanks.

Not an answer, but if you rely on the photo number only, then this may be
duplicated on another camera

Read the manual that came with your cameras on how to capture the image
number on the photo. Unfortunately many cameras use the same numbering
system and unless you manually change it to something unique, you could have
issues.

Thanks for your response. We've got Kodak, HP and Panasonic cameras, none of
which seem to be able to display the photo numbers when you're taking the
photos. I think I'd better try their technical support lines - or get some
cameras which do the job! Thanks for your help.
