Photo Editor 3.0 vs 3.01

J

JLJ

I run Office2000 under Win98SE. The Photo Editor version installed by Office
setup is 3.01, which has a feature I find annoying: the zoom size changes by
mousewheel by doubling the % -- that is, a photo loaded at 50% zooms to
100%, then 200%, then 400%, and so on. Office 97's Photo Editor 3.0 zoomed
in increments of 25% -- that is, a photo loaded at 50% zoomed to 75%, then
100%, then 125%, etc. Since I am used to working in this way, I'd like to
get this functionality back -- so:

1. Can PhotoEd v 3.01 zoom settings be specified somewhere in the Registry?
2. Can Office Setup be directed to install the copy of PhotoEd 3.0 I have
saved on my HD (without me having to copy the install disc to a CDRW and
replacing the PhotoEd folder with v 3.0)?
3. PhotoEd v 3.0 runs fine, but gives a "Registration/Unregistration failed"
error on loading -- can this be fixed?

Hi JLJ,

MS Office Photo Editor (originally 'Dr Halo', a 3rd party app) was discontinued after Office XP (2002). Halving and doubling of the
image when zooming, either by clicking while the zoom icon was active, or later, with a mouse whel, is the default behavior
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/169938/en-us?FR=1 (and in Photo Editor help under 'zoom'). There isn't a registry setting to
change the behavior. Photed.exe has a matched DLL file

There are different percentage settings available from the zoom dropdown on the toolbar, it was technially a bug in the Office 97
v3.0.0 MS Photo Editor where a mouse wheel increments followed the drop down zoom settings instead of the half/double changes on
zooming.

The error you're seeing is likely from having a different version of Photoed.exe and the DLL files in the same folder.

You may want to copy the PhotoEd folder from an Office 97 CD to use that version from a separate folder, but it has some quirks of
its own, so be sure to back up first.
