Photo Editor: Pasted Image Shadow/Duplicate remains in Top-L

When I paste an image from one file to another using
Photo Editor (sad to hear it is not in Office 2003) it
sometimes leaves a shadow or duplicate of the pasted
image in the top left hand corner, as if two images are
being pasted at once.

I am only pressing paste once.

The shadow cannot be moved - it is already part of the
background image from the instant I paste.

This is not merely a display problem. I thought it was at
first but it really is part of the background file.

I can get around it by pasting the top part of the
original file again from a backup but this is a pain.

I know about ifranview or gimp or whatever but I like
PhotoEd otherwise.

There is no mention of the above problem in the MS
knowledge base.

It may be something to do with memory and large images.
The image I am editing now is 1700px * 1500 pix 9MB (not
so very massive). Is there nothing I can do other than
buy more memory?

Another messy work around is to use the triming function
to add some extra space margin to the top left of the
image. Paste, and trim the spare space away again.

Hi Timothy,

It could be a memory limitation of the MS Office Photo Editor
design, (it was first designed for Office v4 <g>)
but I wasn't able to duplicate the problem.

What steps are you using in Photo Editor and what
file type is the graphic?

If you use http://www.irfanview.com 's utility do you
get the same result?

Have you updated the graphics card driver on your PC
or tried turning down the card acceleration two clicks?

Dear Bob,

Thank you very much for your response.
but I wasn't able to duplicate the problem.

Thank you very much for trying!
What steps are you using in Photo Editor and what
file type is the graphic?

The file type was ".jpg". I opened two fairly large (1700
by 1500) scanned images. I copied part of one. I changed
window to the other. I pasted the image I copied. It
appeared in the top left corner, as expected. I moved it
to were I want it to go using drag and drop. But I find
that a duplicate of the pasted image is left behind in the
top corner, without the twinkling dotted line around it,
indicating that it is already part of the background. I
thought at first that this was just a display problem:
that the duplicate was not really there but that the
display had not refreshed in tandem with my moving the
pasted image. However, this is not the case. It is as if I
pasted twice.

I have experienced this problem quite a lot.

If you use http://www.irfanview.com 's utility do you
get the same result?

I will try that. My guess is that it will be okay. I have
used irfanview before but I did not find it as light and
speedy, or as simple, as Photo Editor. I do not have it
installed on my stystem at the moment. (I use photoimpact
which I purchased) I will install irfanview in about 48
hours.
Have you updated the graphics card driver on your PC

No... I am not sure how I might do this. My PC is pretty
new.
or tried turning down the card acceleration two clicks?

Umm... I am not sure how I might do this either. Somewhere
on the control panel, via system or administration tools I
guess.

But, anyway, isn't this manipulation of the graphics card
or its driver, just going to solve display errors? The
duplicate/shadow image that is left behind is really
imbedded in the file. It is not just appearing in the top
left hand corner, it is actually part of the file. If I
save and open up the file again, the duplicate is there.

Hopefully I will get back to you once I have tried the
things that you suggest.
