is there a way to change the way files are viewed when you
use the file, open dialog box within photo editor? would
like to be able to leave it in detail view but reverts
back to list when i close and reopen the program.

If you want to have all your folders viewed in "Details", open Windows
Explorer select View/Details, then select Tools/Folder Options/View and
click on Apply to all Folders.
