I am creating an e-commerce web site. I have between 9 and 15 pictures to
load on each page with descriptions etc. I tried to use Photo gallery but
the column width was too narrow. Is there a way to increase the widths and
control the boarder?

Is there a better way to load the pictures into FP2003 to create a uniform
format? I created a seperate layor for each picture and inserted it along
with my text but the page could be improved.

Thanks,
Joe

I would just do it manually in a table, this way you will have more control.

They will change unless you have stuff in them.

Create a 2 column table, put your image in the left column cell and type
some junk in the right cell - add more rows for more product.

You can use FP's Autothumbnail tool if you want, but FP is not stellar with
handling image editing, so you may want to use IrFanview (an excellent
freebie) for batch thumbnailling and a zillion other useful image thangs.

And he certainly doesn't want the larger images to open on a blank (boring)
page
ETC

I used the microsoft editor to compress the photos to 56 - 103 KB. Then I
was manually shrinking them in Front Page. Will this make the web site
load too slow?

Sorry, I am new at this. I should create a thumbnail (size I want) then when
someone clicks on the page it would go to ie my shopping cart for larger view
with more detail.

Yes it will make the page / site slow to load.
Also, forcing the browser to resize an image degrades the quality.

Use an image editor such as the free IrfanView
www.irfanview.com to create thumbnails of the larger images.
Then link to the larger images using the thumbnail images.

That's kinda clunky...you may want to open a slightly larger size image in a
pop-up (you can use Jimco's Spawn for that ((another excellent freebie))
That way your viewer can stay on the same page...small image on left,
description in right cell along with a "buy" button.

http://www.jimcosoftware.com/addins.aspx scroll down to Spawn.

But there's probably a zillion other ways to do this. The above is simple
and works best if you don't have a LOT of products.

to add to Steves response.

56-103 is still pretty big...I bet you can get them down to 5-20 without
noticing much.

Post the URL to the web for more suggestions.

Do not do anything to your images from within FrontPage. It may seem easy
but the results are NOT good. What image eding software do you have that you
can use to crop, resize and optimize your images??

Surely not the larger versions??? That's too small. 40 - 50 would be good.

No, I meant the small images for in the table. Hard to say without seeing it
though.

I will look into this software also. I like the idea of a pop up.

Thank you very much for your help

I am going to use the IfFanView like you suggested. I do have Jasco Print
Shop for editing photos.
