Photo Gallery Help

LeslieC

I have had my site up for about 2 months...FP2003 seems to work well except
when I want to publish a new page which includes a phototo gallery. I tried
this morning and it took everything from my local to my romote (it
appears)...but when I checked my site, I had my page and the slideshow from
the gallery, but that fatefull red "X" appears where the full size image
should be.

Next I compared one gallery file to another...everything looks correct. I
noticed in my photo gallery files that each gallery on the remote side is
listed twice...all except the new gallery I was trying to upload. This has
happened before when I have attempted to remove one photo and replace it with
another.

Hoping someone here can help me out...thanks again...Leslie

I found your article most innformative and educational; however after
investing both the time and money in this I'd sure like some help getting it
to work...any other thoughts besides changing programs?

Right click on one of the red x's and select properties.
If the path to the file starts with file:\\\ it means you didn't import the images into your web
before you created the photogallery.

Create a folder in your web and import the full size images you want into it.
"Then" create your photogallery inside this folder and then publish.

I am a newbie, but I didn't like FP's Photo Gallery, and I took advice
posted here and got JDAlbum. It took me days to figure out how to use
it, but it is well worth the time and effort. I will be using it a lot at my
second website, which will publish soon. I only used it for one gallery
at my first website, if you want to take a look.

Can you post a link to the photo gallery??

Hi, LeslieC
I am no expert in design, just an amateur web user.

I think the site looks nice. Did you use JAlbum? Whatever, it is a nice way
to display images

I only have a couple of points
1. It doesn't fit in 800*600
2. The contrast of text on background makes it a bit difficult to read,
especially red on black. Perhaps a lighter backgroud or different colour
text would help.

I have a feeling that somewhere out there in cyberspace there are some
tutorials on how to use colour well. I recently obtained a program - it is
on my front page - called Color Wheel Pro. I have yet to explore it
thoroughly, but it looks good

BTW, I am a self-learner (or self-teacher, whichever). It can make things
harder, can't it. :))

Try:
Removing all spaces from file & folder names (they will appear as %20)
Remove the _ underscore as the first character in file names.
You should also stick to all lower case in naming files.

Did you move stuff around after the photogallery created it's files/folders? Because it looks like some images are in the root directory and not the one generated by FP.

Once FP generates the folders you can't move, or rename them.

thank you...that's actually a lot of help...yes I moved thing...I have books
on 2003...and each has a different view on a couple of items...I actually
moved them per my hosting site...thank you again...that will help with some
of it...

Then you should recreate that gallery.

And for sanity's sake...don't store images in the root...you'll end up with a mess of stuff there and not be able to find what you need easily. I keep only pages & scripts & css in the root everything else goes in other folders.

You don't have much control over the arbitrarily named photogallery folder though...so don't try to tame that beast...just let it be. And, when it works, don't mess with it...let it have it's own quiet place :)
