Photo gallery pics too large.

Hi,

On my site I have Thumbnails which as usual when selected, open out in the
web browser, but as pics are appearing in browser they are massive, although
when completely down loaded, the browser is just filled with the photo fine.

How do I decrease the photo size so that as it is initially appearing in the
browser it is appearing smaller and thus appears quicker?

Thanks,

Griff.

Resize / resample the images with an image editing program.
If you don't have one, the free IrfanView will do an excellent job.

Steve,

Do I re-size before adding photo's into FP Folder or can re-sizing be done
within FP itself?

Thanks,

Griff.

it's best to re-size them (the large ones) before you add them to the
gallery. FrontPage will do it's job OK on the thumbnails without
intervention.

there are good tools out there that will re-size your pix in batch format.
I like ulead's "smart saver pro" and I think there's a free trial at
www.ulead.com you can also check www.ifranview.com which is supposed to be
totally free. I'm sure there are others but those two spring to mind.

Down loaded irfanview as Steve suggested, my original images were 2400 x
1800 so resized them to 800 x 600 but as picture is downloading, it is so
big that scroll bars are shown at the side and bottom.

Once downloaded the picture becomes browser window size but it is the
download time which is the problem.

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Griff.

Are you sure you resized the images in your web, and then republished them??

download a free trial of MacroMedia Fireworks MX; from the
File menu choose batch process; point to the folder of
images on your server; select "add all"; under commands,
choose 800x600; choose Export and under settings
choose "JPEG smaller file"; (next)select the Batch Output
location, click "Batch"

Hi,

Thanks, I have the full version of MMF MX already installed.
Have tried following the above, choosing my photo files which load into FTP
Commander Pro, which is what I use for updating my web, the file sizes seem
to be bigger than the ones I originally uploaded if I am reading the file
size right.
As my Pics load into my browser on the live Web, should they in fact be that
small that slider bars do not appear in view or am I expecting too much?

Thanks,
Griff.
