photo sizing issue

Has anyone a suggestion on a way to make pictures that need resizing adhere
to the choices made in the PP 2003 format picture dialog box? Specifically,
several pictures were skewed in size (the width and height were not
proportional when their size was changed to make them larger or smaller).

To fix the skewing, in the size tab of the format picture dialog box, lock
aspect ratio was checked and relative to original picture size as well. In
one case, the percentage showed 70% high by 59% wide. The width box was
changed to 70% to make it match the height and eliminate the skewed effect.
After saying ok, and going back to look at the settings, PowerPoint 2003 had
changed it back to the non-proportional 59%. Also tried was to uncheck the
lock aspect ratio and manually typing in the same percentages in the height
and width choices. It made no difference and PP overrode what was entered.
This particular image was not cropped.

The other peculiar thing that I noticed in some of these photos was that if
they had been cropped, and reset picture on the picture tab did not restore
the picture to its original size and the cropping remained.

I am entering this issue on behalf of someone else who is unfamiliar with
these forums. I also learned that she placed the photos using copy, paste and
not using insert picture. I told her not to do that anymore. Could this be a
factor? I've never seen anything like this.

Hi Cayce

First up, does you friend have all updates installed? Windows & Office.

Sizing: What happens if you double click picture -> size -> untick lock
aspect ratio -> click reset -> click preview -> re-tick lock aspect ratio ->
change percentage of height to 70% -> hit tab -> click ok?

Cropping: Does the crop from left/right/top/bottom show any numbers? What
happens if you change these to 0? Please be aware that if your friend has
compressed the pictures the cropped area may have been lost (there is an
option in the compress pictures dialogue box).

And you are quite right, insert -> picture is a much better way to go :)
