Photos do not appear on my website

I create a website and publish it, and when I upload it, the photos are not
there. I have read the posts, but the referenced articles are not available
any more. Would someone kindly detail what I need to do so that my photos
show after uploading? I would greatly appreciate it. I have uploaded the
jpgs to the ftp site already. I just don't know how to reference them within
the document. Thanks!

It sounds like you did not upload all the html output. Assuming that you use
Pub 2003 at its default settings, then when you Publish to the Web, an
index.htm file (your home page) and an index_files folder is produced. The
index_files folder is where your other pages and supporting graphics and
images are contained. Upload the index_files folder and you should be good
to go. If that doesn't work, post the URL of your site. Reference: Prepare,
publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:

Sorry, I copied an old message as this is a common problem for new users of
Publisher, and it isn't completely applicable to your situation. As you have
uploaded some files, I would clean up your webhost space...delete the
index.htm file if it is there, and all the misc. images that you uploaded.
Then Publish to the Web from Publisher and upload the newly created
index.htm file and index_files folder, and THEN you should be good to go.

Someone helped me create this page and I am not an experienced web designer.
I am nervous to just delete the index as it is an important page for other
parts of the website. When I publish to the web from Publisher, I don't see
any newly created index.htm anyway...so that makes me more nervous.
I tried creating a thumbnail, and linking it, but that didn't work
either..both the original and the thumbnail on top came up blank.
I am a very newbie at webdesign but I have been using Publisher for over 10
years and I don't understand why this is so hard. I need a hand holding
explanation..do this then this..sorry to be such a baby. Your help would be
appreciated

I appreciate you concern, and you don't have to delete the index.htm file on
your server if you don't want to, but it will make for less potential
problems. And those loose JPGs won't be used. Done correctly all the images
used in your site will be contained in the index_files folder.

As per handholding, I can't do better than the article I referenced. Did you
read it? Also, there are some more articles on David Bartosik's site about
uploading that might help you understand the process better. Once you get it
figured out, it isn't that hard. Note that if you are using a form on your
site, you will need to use the HTTP uploading protocol. Here is David's
articles on uploading:

And if you prefer to use a dedicated FTP program to upload your files, then
here is a freebie:

Believe it or not I figured it out. When I published to the web, not only
did it make an html file, which is what I was uploading, but it also made a
folder with that same name_files. I didn't realize I had to upload that too.
20 hours later, I got the idea from all you wrote and found that file and
uploaded it with the html page and now it is working.

What a lesson!
Anyway, thanks so much.
